CADENUS - Creation and Deployment of End-User Services
in Premium IP Networks

Architecture: The CADENUS Mediation Component architecture envisions a partitioning of system functionalities into 3 major blocks, termed Access Mediator, Service Mediator and Resource Mediator. Each mediator belongs to one of the business actors involved: the access provider, service provider and network provider respectively.

The figure below depicts the overall architecture, with the three mediator blocks, their main functionalities and interaction points. A first trial architecture has been implemented to provide VPN services for one network domain.

Access Mediator (AM):

Enables users to input their requests into the system.

Service Mediator (SM):
Manages services and the physical access to these services via the appropriate underlying network, using the Resource Mediator(s).

Resource Mediator (RM ):
Provides an abstract view of the QoS characteristics of a Premium IP network to a Service Mediator.
- Manages network resources
- Belongs to a Network Provider (NP)
- Is Network Independent - it is independent of the network technology or means of providing QoS (e.g. DiffServ, MPLS, over-provisioning). A Network Controller handles all network dependent related tasks.

Network Controller NC:

Manages network resources at a network dependent level.

A first trial architecture has been implemented to provide VPN services for one network domain.
Figure 1 shows a simplified architecture, with the some of the needed data repositories and selected technologies for this implementation.
